Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) will mark this year’s World Tourism Day with focus on how digital technology and artificial intelligence could be used in reshaping the tourism industry.
An Associate Professor of Hospitality and Tourism, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Dr. Olumise Olushola Metilelu, will deliver the keynote address and lead discourse on how to use innovation to achieve sustainable development in the nation’s tourism sector.
The event which is organised by the university’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management in collaboration with the Departments of Theatre Arts and Music, is scheduled for 12:00pm, on Monday, September 28, at the Oluremi Tinubu Auditorium, LASUED.
The event is themed “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” the official UN Tourism theme for World Tourism Day 2026.
According to UN Tourism, artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how travellers plan trips and how tourism businesses and destinations operate, creating opportunities for more efficient services and new ways of managing tourism.
The LASUED programme will feature presentations and discussions, alongside cultural performances, a digital exhibition, fintech demonstrations, industry engagement and networking opportunities for participants.
The event will bring together academics, tourism practitioners and other stakeholders, with the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.B. Lafiaji-Okuneye, listed as Chief Host, while the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mrs Toke Benson, will chair the occasion.
The programme is expected to provide an opportunity for participants, particularly students and those interested in the tourism industry, to understand how digital and artificial intelligence can be used to drive a more sustainable tourism.
World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27.
